Very often patients who seek out physical therapy treatment for a low-back, neck or “carpal tunnel” type condition will report that sitting at their desk or computer for extended periods exacerbates their symptoms.  Patients employed on assembly lines or engaged in repetitive activities during their workday can also complain of these symptoms.  During an evaluation or treatment session, if this is felt to be a significant contributing factor to a patient’s overall condition, a thorough ergonomic assessment can be very beneficial.  This involves having Carrie analyze the patient’s posture, arm and leg positioning and spinal alignment at the desk or workspace and make suggestions for adjustments to reduce the postural loading to affected areas.  Results are usually immediate.  Companies such as LCRA have consulted with Carrie in the past to help improve their employee’s ergonomics at their workstations.
